Description:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg (BBBSW), a leading nonprofit organization supporting approximately 300 youth annually, is seeking an Executive Director (ED). BBBSW provides mentorship programs including one-to-one matches, In-School Mentoring, group programs, and the PRISM program supporting LGBTQ+ youth. The ED will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and hands-on operational management while ensuring high-quality program delivery and organizational sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Organizational Management:

  • Provide strategic vision and daily leadership for BBBSW, ensuring continuous improvement of youth programs.

  • Build and maintain a positive, inclusive organizational culture empowering staff and volunteers.

  • Recruit, supervise, and support staff while ensuring role clarity, performance accountability, and professional growth.

  • Guide long-term planning efforts balancing program innovation with financial and operational sustainability.

Financial Stewardship and Fund Development:

  • Oversee budgeting, financial monitoring, reporting, and compliance with funders, regulators, and the Board.

  • Maintain financial health by diversifying and growing revenue streams through government contracts, grants, donations, and events.

  • Lead donor relations, sponsorship cultivation, and community fundraising efforts.

  • Proactively manage organizational risks, including insurance, liability, and compliance obligations.

Governance, Partnerships, and Community Impact:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, ensuring informed decision-making and timely communication.

  • Ensure compliance with national Big Brothers Big Sisters federation standards, government regulations, and reporting obligations.

  • Act as BBBSW’s ambassador in the community, strengthening partnerships with schools, organizations, funders, and local leaders.

  • Advocate for youth mentorship, equity, and inclusion, ensuring BBBSW remains a trusted champion for youth.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in nonprofit or community-based organizations.

  • Strong budget management, financial reporting, and compliance capabilities.

  • Successful track record in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations.

  • Expertise in staff leadership, team building, and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
