Description:
The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 seeks a dedicated Games Coordinator to support the planning and execution of a national multi-sport event taking place from August 9–16, 2026, in Medicine Hat, AB. The event will host over 1,700 participants including athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities, coaches, officials, and support staff from across Canada. These Games also serve as the qualifier for the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2027 in Santiago, Chile.
As a Games Coordinator, you will support the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) under the leadership of the Games Manager, playing a key role in coordinating logistics, meetings, reports, timelines, and communications across multiple portfolio areas. These include accommodations, food services, volunteers, transportation, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive support across multiple portfolio areas, ensuring seamless planning and integration of committee tasks.
Coordinate event planning efforts, timelines, and decisions across Directors and Chairs.
Organize and document meetings, agendas, presentations, and minutes.
Assist in the preparation of operational and planning documents, regular reports, and final post-Games reporting.
Work cross-functionally with local community partners and national organizations like Special Olympics Canada to ensure high-quality execution.
Monitor and support implementation within budget and timeline constraints.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational abilities and experience managing concurrent projects.
Detail-oriented, flexible, and able to handle pressure.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
Availability for evening and weekend work as required.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or related.
At least 3 years’ experience in logistics, sport events, or event planning.
Experience with non-profits, multi-sport events, or high-profile competitions is an asset.
Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset.
Understanding of the Special Olympics mission and passion for inclusive sport is preferred.
