Engineering Co-op Student

 

Description:

The Engineering Co-op Student would contribute to planning and monitoring of LTC facility builds, developing strategies to support the maintenance and infection prevention and control measures within existing facilities, and energy efficiency audits and investment to support efficient operations. The student will be part of a dynamic work environment that includes site visits to existing and in-progress facilities, engagement with sector stakeholders, direct mentorship relationships with senior infrastructure executives, and certification and training opportunities.

Primary Accountabilities

 

 

  • Ensure duties are performed in a fiscally responsible manner while observing all safety practices and regulations.
  • Perform risk assessment of all projects and maintains safety and risk management protocols at all times.
  • Protect the confidentiality of Departmental and LTC sector information.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

As an ideal student, you have:

  • The ability to work, support and communicate effectively with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care staff and third parties, including facility administrators and maintenance personnel, construction managers and contractors, and equipment vendors, to achieve vision, expectations, and deliverables.
  • The ability to organize and employ writing skills of the nature required to effectively communicate with the Department and external service providers and to provide written and verbal reports as required.
  • The ability to utilize, analyze and synthesize data from database applications.
  • The ability to prioritize in the scheduling of work requirements.
  • The ability to work within a team or individually, as required, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to carry out policies and procedures of the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care
  • The ability to read and interpret building drawings, schematics, blueprints, code specifications, and diagrams.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office suite.
  • The desire and ability to engage in continuing education and skills upgrading.
  • The ability to understand and promote confidentiality as the norm.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures, which include fire and emergency plans, and Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care procedures.

The following are considered assets:

Knowledge of building plant systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, life safety and controls systems and devices;
Demonstrated interest in energy efficient building practices
