Description:

ApTask is seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Performance and Capacity Management Engineer to support mission-critical workloads for a global client in the digital transformation and IT outsourcing sector. This role involves end-to-end responsibility for mainframe performance optimization, anomaly detection, incident prevention, and capacity planning to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of large-scale z/OS environments.

The engineer will leverage advanced tools and analytical expertise to monitor real-time performance, identify and resolve system anomalies, and provide technical guidance across cross-functional teams including infrastructure, DevOps, operations, and application groups. The role requires proactive collaboration to optimize workload behavior, implement performance tuning strategies, and ensure resource efficiency while enabling seamless business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor real-time z/OS system health across CPU, memory, DASD, and WLM workloads using tools like RMF, SmartIS, IzPCA, and MICS.

• Analyze performance data to identify bottlenecks, risks, and trends, and resolve system performance anomalies quickly and effectively.

• Develop and implement performance tuning strategies including service definition adjustments, dispatching priorities, and workload placements.

• Perform capacity planning, forecasting, and modeling of workload demands and resource requirements.

• Support cost modeling, vendor reporting (SCRT), and infrastructure sizing.

• Collect and analyze system performance data, generate dashboards and reports, and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise, mentoring, and guidance.

• Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response teams in resolving performance issues.

• Contribute to DevOps integrations, including migration of tooling to Git-based change management pipelines.

Candidate Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Mathematics, Finance, or related field.

• At least 10 years of mainframe systems experience in performance monitoring, observability, and capacity management.

• Strong expertise with z/OS workload management (WLM), SMF/RMF data, Parallel Sysplex, and job scheduling.

• Proficiency in REXX/Python, JCL, DB2, and strong understanding of PR/SM.

• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (charts, pivot tables, Vlookups, PowerPivot) and PowerPoint for visualization and reporting.

• Experience with monitoring tools and tuning techniques, including MICS, IzPCA, and IBM SCRT reporting.

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

• Experience with ADABAS and DevOps practices is a plus.
