Engineer

Description:

Kongsberg Geospatial, a leading software company specializing in real-time geospatial technology solutions for Defence and Aerospace applications, is seeking a Systems Engineer to join its Ottawa office. With over 30 years of experience, Kongsberg has built a strong reputation in developing mission-critical solutions for air defence, search and rescue, drone delivery, autonomous vehicle tracking, and other advanced systems. Since 2006, the company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace in Norway, contributing to key international programs.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of a new submarine project for an international customer. The Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in requirements analysis, subsystem integration, engineering process development, and technical oversight of subcontractors. As this is a large-scale, multi-stakeholder program, experience in coordinating across diverse teams and ensuring alignment with customer expectations will be critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct requirements analysis, allocation, elicitation, and derivation for multi-stakeholder projects and subcontracted subsystems.

  • Collaborate in drafting and reviewing system and subsystem designs for both internal stakeholders and external customer approval.

  • Prepare bids, proposals, and supporting engineering documentation.

  • Develop engineering and project plans for internal teams and external subcontractors.

  • Produce Systems Engineering artefacts, including SysML models, in support of lifecycle gate reviews.

  • Oversee the change management process, ensuring contractual compliance and impact assessments.

  • Develop and execute integration strategies to build customer confidence in delivered solutions.

  • Lead integration of subcontracted subsystems into the overall system architecture.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices through process enhancements and lessons learned.

Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of Systems Engineering experience in the defence sector.

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Strong background in delivering large engineering programs with cross-team coordination.

  • Experience with engineering lifecycle management, waterfall, and agile methodologies.

  • Proven ability to oversee subcontractor work and manage large, multi-stakeholder requirement sets.

  • Proficiency with requirement management tools (e.g., DOORS) and MBSE tools (e.g., MagicDraw).

  • Hands-on experience with subsystem integration and end-user deployment of engineering solutions.

  • Canadian security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to balance theoretical knowledge with practical execution in complex environments.

Preferred Qualifications (Assets):

  • Domain expertise in naval combat systems.

  • Experience with C4 integrated systems design.

  • Knowledge of Sonar, Electronic Warfare, EO/IR, Tactical Data Link, Combat Management, and Weapons systems.

  • Experience in integrating navigation, platform management, and communication systems.
