Elder Caregiver

Description:

A compassionate and experienced Live-In Elder Caregiver is required to provide full-time assistance to an 85-year-old Punjabi-speaking woman living with advanced dementia in Merritt, BC. The caregiver will reside in a private, furnished 1-bedroom suite with a separate entrance, and will support the elderly woman with day-to-day personal care, companionship, and household tasks.

This live-in role is ideal for a patient, kind, and dependable individual fluent in Punjabi or Hindi, with an understanding of English. The caregiver will also support light household chores and prepare home-cooked Indian vegetarian meals. Access to a vehicle is provided for essential errands, making it easier to manage medical appointments and grocery needs.

The caregiver will work on a split-shift schedule, requiring flexibility. In return, they will join a calm, respectful, and supportive family environment, making a real difference in the life of a senior and her spouse.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide full personal care: bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and hygiene

• Assist with medication reminders and administration

• Cook traditional Indian vegetarian meals, preferably Punjabi

• Offer emotional support and consistent companionship

• Prevent falls and offer mobility assistance

• Handle light housekeeping, including laundry and room tidiness

• Maintain a clean, peaceful, and safe living environment

• Run occasional errands using a provided vehicle

• Be available during a flexible split-shift schedule

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Fluent in Punjabi or Hindi; English understanding is necessary

• Prior experience in elder care and/or dementia support is preferred

• Kind-hearted, patient, honest, and reliable

• Legally authorized to work in Canada

• Passionate about caregiving with a genuine sense of empathy and integrity
