Make a Lasting Impact on Métis Early Learning in BC
Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is seeking a dynamic and culturally grounded Early Learning and Child Care Cultural Resources Specialist to support the creation and dissemination of Métis-specific early years educational resources. This position is integral to the development and success of the Métis Early Years Cultural Program and involves collaboration across Indigenous communities, government departments, and educational stakeholders.
As a key member of the Ministry of Education team, you will lead the innovation and integration of culturally relevant materials that align with the BC Early Years Framework and Métis Early Years Framework, ensuring accessibility, cultural integrity, and sustainability of early learning resources across the province.
Develop and implement Métis-specific early years resources, ensuring cultural appropriateness and alignment with provincial and community-based frameworks.
Monitor the progress and success of the Métis Early Years Cultural Program, identifying areas for innovation and sustainability.
Conduct research and gather data on resource needs, working collaboratively with the Ministry, contractors, and stakeholders.
Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and Métis artists/designers, negotiating favorable terms for resource acquisition.
Coordinate and deliver professional learning opportunities focused on Métis language, history, and culture.
Enhance access to resources through online tools and platforms.
Participate in committees and project teams, assisting with new projects as required.
Support event coordination, attend external meetings/events, and contribute to overall operational efficiency of MNBC.
Perform related duties as assigned, maintaining alignment with the role’s professional level.
Diploma in Early Childhood Education or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in early childhood education or the public school system.
Eligible for professional or technical registration in a relevant field.
Experience working with children aged 0–8 years and their families.
Prior experience in Indigenous communities, with strong knowledge of Métis culture and history, is highly preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated problem-solving, leadership, and team-building abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and able to adapt to new technologies and software.
Knowledge of Métis contributions in BC, both historical and contemporary.
Possession of or eligibility for a Class 5 driver’s license may be required.
Must be willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, if required.
