CN, one of North America’s premier railways, is seeking a Work Equipment Heavy Duty Mechanic (Mechanic A) to join its team in Kamloops, BC. The selected individual will be responsible for performing inspections, overhauls, repairs, and maintenance on a wide variety of locomotives and heavy railway equipment. Perform major and minor repairs, overhauls, and servicing on all types of locomotives in compliance with federal and company regulations.
Conduct detailed inspections and preventive maintenance, including oil changes, part replacements, and adjustments.
Diagnose and repair diesel engine malfunctions and assemble/start engines post-maintenance.
Utilize electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication tools, and other repair machinery safely and effectively.
Prepare inspection and maintenance reports, maintaining detailed records according to company procedures.
Operate locomotives on shop tracks for testing and quality assurance following repairs.
Collaborate closely with other maintenance professionals to ensure the efficient operation of rail equipment.
Schedule: 9-days-on, 5-days-off rotational pattern.
Must be available for irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with potential overtime.
Work is primarily conducted in a shop environment with occasional travel requirements.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Diesel mechanic experience and/or Diesel mechanic diploma.
Valid driver’s license.
Proficiency with measuring tools and basic mechanical diagnostics.
Strong technical understanding of diesel mechanics and hydraulic/electronic systems.
Good physical fitness with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (22 kg).
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Welding certification or demonstrated welding ability.
Ability to certify equipment according to provincial standards.
Experience troubleshooting advanced hydraulic or electrical systems.
Hourly Wage: CAD 46.21 (approx. CAD 7,993 per month).

Training topics include locomotive components, control systems, traction motors, hydraulic systems, and power assemblies. Completion of this training is essential for progression and certification.
