Description:
The Disability Support Worker provides direct, front-line support to adults with developmental disabilities enrolled in the START Program (Support Today Achieves Results Tomorrow). The role empowers individuals to live life to their fullest potential by supporting personal care, daily living skills, community inclusion, and social engagement, while maintaining safety, dignity, and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personal care support (bathing, grooming, oral care, catheter/incontinence care)
Support daily programs, household chores, meal prep, shopping, and financial management
Assist with medication administration and documentation
Ensure a safe environment; perform lifts, transfers, and operate mobility equipment
Follow Behaviour Support Plans and demonstrate knowledge in behavior interventions
Support participation in community activities, employment, and recreational programs
Transport individuals to appointments/events and manage environmental challenges
Respond to emergencies and complete incident reports within 24 hours
Maintain accurate documentation, timesheets, mileage claims, and email communications
Collaborate with supervisors, guardians, and multidisciplinary teams
Participate in staff meetings, mandatory training, fire drills, and emergency preparedness
Serve as a positive role model and advocate for individuals’ goals and choices
Qualifications:
Relevant diploma or certificate in Human Services OR 3+ years experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities
First Aid/CPR certification
Valid driver’s license, clean abstract, own vehicle, $2M insurance coverage
Vulnerable sector check
Experience using assistive equipment and environmental interventions
Computer literacy and report-writing skills

Additional Requirements:

Swimming ability required
Complete mandatory online training before starting
May be required to support START Program individuals in other communities during emergencies
