Description:

Simon Fraser University (SFU), a globally recognized leader in climate action and sustainability, is hiring a Director of Policy and Strategy to lead its policy and strategy team at the Centre for Dialogue under the VPA Engagement and Dialogue portfolio. This role is central to the success of Clean Energy Canada, an initiative committed to advancing practical climate and clean energy policies that are economically viable and socially responsible.

The Director will drive policy leadership in clean energy, sustainable development, and decarbonization initiatives. This high-impact role requires both a strategic mindset and a capacity for hands-on engagement with government, industry, and the public.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of policy experts through strategic direction, effective project management, and mentoring

  • Oversee the design and execution of policy research, analysis, and written outputs aligned with national climate and clean energy priorities

  • Cultivate strategic partnerships and manage stakeholder relations across federal and provincial jurisdictions

  • Monitor developments in climate policy and clean energy, adapting strategies accordingly to maximize organizational impact

  • Represent SFU and Clean Energy Canada in high-level dialogues, media, and public engagements

  • Ensure all initiatives align with the broader mission of SFU’s Centre for Dialogue and Clean Energy Canada's objectives


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Law, Resource Management, Environmental Policy, or a related field

  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in climate or energy policy, or equivalent education and experience

  • Deep understanding of the Canadian regulatory environment in clean energy, climate action, and sustainability

  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and manage complex projects

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with high-impact public reports and strategic briefings

  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, partnerships, and public trust across sectors


What SFU Offers:

  • Compensation: Competitive annual salary between CA$125106 and CA$149294

  • Temporary Role: Fixed term until February 28, 2027
