Description:

• Providing innovative leadership to develop and design strategies, policies, research, and plans for an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable provincial parks, beaches, and trails system with tourism, outdoor recreation and educational opportunities.
• Designing multi-user opportunities for exploration, understanding, and appreciation of Nova Scotia’s natural and cultural heritage through interpretation, information, and education programs.
• Ensuring efficient, effective, and timely investment in provincial park infrastructure and park development through comprehensive planning, proposal development and project management.
• Working with government and external partners, to develop and lead processes for the identification, designation, and management approaches for the protection of provincial Crown lands.
• Ensuring the effective management of human and financial resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, promoting diversity and a healthy workplace.

In this role you will report to the Executive Director, Regional Services.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a university degree in a natural resoures related field of study as well as several years of progressive experience in leadership roles. A demonstrated acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

As the ideal candidate you have proven leadership abilities to effectively achieve results in a complex organization subject to change and new challenges influenced by a wide range of internal and external demands. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing multiple projects and deadlines; the ability to deal with controversial issues, representing the department in public venues; problem solving and financial management skills; administration experience dealing with legislation and policies; excellent verbal and written skills are required along with attention to detail in terms of reading and disseminating information.
