About the Role
- The Director of Communications and Marketing (the Director) oversees the implementation of strategies and initiatives to achieve performance goals and alignment with our Strategic Plan in the following areas: responsiveness to clearly identified needs of Canadians; quality standards and integrity; expansion of the scope, outreach, impact and revenues through targeted promotion; and operating within a sustainable financial framework with respect to costs and revenues.
- The Director establishes and maintains the institutional voice and presence of CCOHS, with appropriate tone and perspective reflective of the tripartite nature of the Centre, while protecting and enhancing the Centre’s reputation and maintaining brand integrity across all platforms.
- As the designated federal government “HOC” (head of communications) for the Centre, the Director is responsible for ensuring organizational compliance with federal policies and reporting requirements including the federal communications and identity program; advertising directive; annual report; publishing; and printing.
- Through the work of their department, the Director is responsible for delivering products, events, commitments, copyrights, accessibility and internal and external communications standards, and enabling effective cross-departmental collaboration to fulfill and advance the work of CCOHS.
- The Director is a trusted strategic advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, with respect to the business and work of CCOHS, internal and external messaging, and promotional, branding, and communication strategies.
- The Director models and champions the CCOHS Code of Conduct and the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector.
- The Director has two direct managerial reports, and 13 indirect staff reports in two departmental service units: Communications, and Outreach. They set goals and objectives, performance targets and measures for the department and direct reports and allocate staff and budget/financial resources within budgetary constraints. They oversee human resources activities within the department including hiring, performance management, employee development, labour relations, and end of employment decisions.
- The Director manages stakeholder and/or partner relationships and contracts, seeking and actioning opportunities to enhance business effectiveness, partnerships and relationships as well as expand reach, generate revenue and, or contain costs to ensure the organization’s viability. They are the main liaison with the Minister of Labour’s communications team.
What You Have
- A degree in Communications, Marketing or a related discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- A minimum of 8-10 years as an innovative and creative leader managing and engaging professionals in the execution of communications and marketing strategies, brand and product/service promotion, ideally in a medium-sized unionized business environment.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging social media and community engagement platforms, best practices and strategies, and all forms of web interfaces, web analytics, and technologies, including emerging and new technology devices.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies, industry technology systems and software solutions.
- Solid foundation of knowledge of federal legislation governing communications, marketing, and accessibility.
- Digital media and marketing experience.
- Knowledge in marketing, communications and sales theories and approaches.
- Experience in the development of brand strategy and creative direction.
- Superior project management skills, with knowledge of project management principles from ideas to proposal to implementation.
- Superior writing and editing skills, with the ability to deliver accurate and flawless communications commensurate with CCOHS’ reputation and credibility.
- Knowledge of principles of copywriting, graphic design, layout and publishing.
- Experience in fiscal management, with revenue and expense budgets.
- Knowledge and understanding of sales cycles and pipelines.
- Experience with high level external stakeholder engagement.
- Bilingual in English and French is preferred.
- Senior level experience in the public sector is an asset.
