Description:
The Maison de la chanson et de la musique du Québec (MCMQ) will open its doors in 2027 in Montreal’s Quartier Latin at the Bibliothèque Saint-Sulpice. To support the establishment of this significant cultural institution, MCMQ is recruiting a Director of Communications to lead its outreach strategy. This role will be pivotal in shaping MCMQ’s communication efforts, including marketing, branding, public relations, and visitor experience.
The successful candidate will report directly to the General Management and will be responsible for developing and implementing an integrated communications plan. They will also oversee the marketing and media relations strategies, as well as build relationships with stakeholders and partners in the cultural sector. This role will be key to MCMQ’s positioning and reputation, contributing directly to the development of the institution.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement an integrated communications plan, covering marketing, media relations, digital strategy, and partnerships.
Ensure consistency and quality of brand image across all communication channels.
Design and coordinate communication campaigns.
Build relationships with media, influencers, and cultural partners.
Manage the communications team, which will be recruited gradually, and coordinate with external vendors and collaborators.
Lead marketing initiatives, evaluate communication efforts, and adjust strategies to meet revenue, awareness, and impact goals.
Act as a resource person, collaborating with other departments to enhance public engagement and visibility.
Contribute to MCMQ’s strategic planning and its implementation.
Identify, manage, or collaborate on funding requests within the communications department and ensure accountability.
Collaborate on pre-opening activities and implement processes related to ticketing and customer service.

Real impact: Shape the positioning, branding, and reputation of MCMQ before its opening. Key tasks include developing the brand identity, recruiting the communications team, managing fundraising campaigns, and organizing events.

Profile Sought:
A combination of education and experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, with leadership experience in managing teams, budgets, and projects, ideally in a cultural or institutional context.
Proven track record in developing brand strategies, campaigns, and communication plans; understanding of trends and proficiency with analytical tools.
Excellent command of French and strong writing skills; good knowledge of English.
Experience in philanthropy or with boards of directors is a plus.
Strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and strong organizational skills.
Excellent organizational, relational, and collaborative abilities.
Good judgment, autonomy, ability to handle ambiguity, and work in complex environments.

About MCMQ:
The Maison de la chanson et de la musique du Québec (MCMQ) will open in 2027 at the Bibliothèque Saint-Sulpice on Saint-Denis Street in Montreal. Supported by the Government of Quebec and the Ministry of Culture and Communications, the project is carried out in partnership with Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. The MCMQ will be located in the heart of the Quartier Latin, near other cultural institutions.
MCMQ will serve as a bridge between generations, artists, and the public, celebrating Quebec’s rich music and song heritage. The institution will blend heritage with cutting-edge technologies, offering unique musical experiences and a space for discovery, encounters, and sharing.
