The Departments of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Biomedical Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for Postdoctoral Scholars in the areas of biosensors and soft robotics.

Job Description:
Multiple positions are available in the Advanced Biofabrication Laboratory ("ABL") and Multifunctional Engineering Dynamics Automation Lab ("MEDAL") at the University of Calgary in collaboration. The postdoctoral researchers will join interdisciplinary research teams developing novel technologies as follows:

  • Nanoclay-based biosensors integrated with a microfluidic chip for diagnosing human diseases using body fluids such as urine, saliva, and blood.
  • 3D printed soft robotic arm embedded with sensors and actuators for manipulating soft samples.

Both works will involve design, modelling, fabrication, system integration, testing and applications.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Engineering or a related field with a focus in one or more areas, including biosensor design, fabrication, and integration with microfluidic chips, nanoclays for biosensor applications, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, soft robotics, polymer synthesis, etc.
  • The applicant should be motivated and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The successful candidates will have a proven record of success and be able to conduct research independently as well as be part of a team
