Description:

Polytechnique Montréal, a renowned engineering university located in the heart of Montréal, QC, is seeking a Department Director for its Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering (MAGI). This leadership role involves overseeing the department’s strategic, academic, financial, and human resource management while upholding the institution’s high standards of excellence. The director will play a key role in shaping the department’s long-term development, research, and teaching strategies and will actively represent the department in internal and external networks.

The Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering comprises 54 professors and 10 teaching masters and is responsible for various bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in industrial engineering and applied mathematics. The director will lead faculty governance, oversee administrative functions, and contribute to institutional decision-making while aligning the department’s goals with Polytechnique Montréal’s strategic vision.


Key Responsibilities:

🎯 Strategic Leadership & Institutional Development:

  • Participate in Polytechnique’s strategic decision-making and align departmental goals with the university’s mission
  • Drive the long-term growth and development of the department while enhancing its reputation
  • Oversee the implementation of strategic objectives and academic excellence initiatives

πŸ› Departmental Management & Governance:

  • Lead and motivate faculty and administrative staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration
  • Supervise faculty recruitment, task distribution, and performance evaluations
  • Oversee the departmental budget and allocate resources effectively
  • Organize faculty meetings and committees to drive continuous improvement

  • Ensure the quality and continuous improvement of academic programs and teaching methods
  • Support faculty research initiatives and provide resources for their development
  • Ensure compliance with engineering accreditation requirements
  • Promote innovation and technological advancements in the department’s research fields

🌍 Representation & Outreach:

  • Represent the department in official institutional committees
  • Engage in external scientific and professional networks to strengthen collaborations
  • Act as a liaison between Polytechnique Montréal and external academic or industry partners

Required Qualifications & Experience:

βœ… Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field relevant to the department’s research and teaching activities
βœ… Extensive experience in university-level teaching, research, and program development
βœ… Engineering license in Canada or eligibility to obtain one (preferably from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec)
βœ… Experience in industry or leadership roles in academic settings is an asset
