Data Science Manager

Description:

Capital One Canada is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead a team in developing innovative data-driven solutions at scale. This role involves utilizing cutting-edge distributed computing technologies, analyzing large-scale customer transactions, and leveraging machine learning techniques to enhance financial decision-making. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing talent, optimizing business programs, and contributing to the company’s data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the development of software for cleaning and investigating large datasets (numerical and textual).
• Explore internal and external data sources and APIs to uncover trends and improve analysis.
• Design and contribute to highly scalable data pipelines and analytical tools in AWS.
• Implement machine learning models for credit scoring and underwriting.
• Lead a team in analyzing data to optimize various business processes.
• Mentor and manage a high-performing team of data scientists.
• Investigate and adapt new technologies to shape the future of digital banking.

Qualifications & Skills:

✅ Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience developing statistical or quantitative models.
• 5+ years of experience in open-source programming languages (Python, Scala, or Java).
• 5+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL programming.
• 5+ years of experience with Git and GitHub for version control.
• 2+ years of experience in a leadership role (managing teams, driving projects, or product ownership).

✅ Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or PhD in a quantitative or technical field.
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS).
• Advanced knowledge of Git Workflows (Pull Requests, Code Reviews, Branching).
• Experience with CI/CD tools and machine learning workflows.
• 5+ years of experience in Python and SQL.
• 3+ years of leadership experience in data science or product development.
