Description:
The YMCA of the National Capital Region is currently hiring a Child, Youth & Family (CYF) Program Instructor for a part-time permanent position. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting the physical, social, and emotional development of children and youth through recreational programming in a respected charitable organization.
As a CYF Program Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering quality, engaging, and meaningful recreational programs and experiences to children, teens, and families. The instructor plays a key role in supervising participants, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, and encouraging development through structured activities and positive role modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, implement, and lead high-quality recreational programs including fitness, arts, sports, crafts, dance, drama, and music tailored for children and youth aged 6–16.
Guide and support participants’ physical, emotional, and social development through structured programming.
Maintain a strong presence to ensure participant safety and foster an inclusive, respectful environment.
Collaborate with fellow instructors and coordinators to ensure smooth program delivery.
Provide exceptional customer service to families and members.
Address concerns or behavioral issues promptly and escalate to the CYF Coordinator when necessary.
Promote YMCA’s values of excellence, compassion, dignity, accountability, and inclusion in every interaction.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required; post-secondary education or Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluent in English (spoken and written); French is an asset.
Certifications: Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
Experience:
Prior experience working with children and youth in a camp or program setting is strongly preferred.
Knowledge and experience in areas such as recreational sports, arts, music, or health programs are beneficial.
Other Requirements:
Must possess or obtain a Police Record Check (not older than 6 months) suitable for working with children.
Must be eligible to work in Canada.
Completion of child protection training semi-annually is mandatory.
