Description:
SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada) is a not-for-profit copyright collective representing nearly 200,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers. The organization ensures that music creators receive fair compensation for the use of their works through licensing, royalty collection, and advocacy. SOCAN is seeking a Creative Representative, West Coast to join its Creative & Member Relations team, supporting members and creative initiatives in Western Canada.
This position plays a key role in fostering relationships with music creators, industry professionals, and community stakeholders while coordinating administrative and creative support functions. The role combines direct engagement with members and partners, recruitment of emerging artists, and logistical execution of creative programs and events.
Key Responsibilities:
Member Support & Recruitment
Serve as the first point of contact for SOCAN members in Western Canada via email, phone, and in person.
Meet with current and prospective members to provide information on SOCAN’s programs, distribution, and membership benefits.
Support recruitment by researching emerging Canadian music talent and identifying outreach opportunities.
Maintain relationships with managers, publishers, agents, and labels in the regional music scene.
Attend industry events, showcases, and conferences to represent SOCAN and build engagement.
Facilitate introductions between members and key industry stakeholders.
Assist in organizing songwriting camps, creative workshops, and educational panels.
Lead presentations such as SOCAN 101s and Works Registration sessions across Western Canada.
Administrative & Operational Support
Coordinate bookings, documentation, and communications for SOCAN Houses in Los Angeles and Nashville.
Manage the “A&R Report” newsletter by gathering content and liaising with Creative Executives.
Track and log membership requests and updates within SOCAN’s case management system.
Prepare reports on member recruitment, retention, and engagement.
Support the planning and execution of SOCAN’s regional events, receptions, and recognition programs.
Qualifications & Experience:
2–4 years of experience in the music industry, arts administration, or creative coordination.
Post-secondary education in Music Business, Communications, Arts Administration, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of the Canadian music ecosystem, particularly Western Canada.
Demonstrated interest in discovering and supporting emerging talent across genres.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
Strong administrative and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, social media, and digital media file handling.
Ability to attend events during evenings or weekends when required.
