HBA Chartered Professional Accountants, a leading full-service independent accounting firm based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is actively seeking a CPA Manager in Public Practice. As a member of the Management Team, the CPA Manager will oversee all aspects of client files from initiation to final delivery. This includes engagement planning, performing and supervising fieldwork, reviewing the work of junior staff, presenting deliverables to clients, and advising on key business decisions.

The position offers exposure to diverse client needs across assurance, tax planning, compliance, and owner-managed businesses. The successful candidate will play a key role in mentorship, coaching, and leadership within the firm, contributing to both client satisfaction and internal team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage engagement processes from inception through to client delivery

  • Supervise and occasionally perform fieldwork as required

  • Review accounting, assurance, and tax work completed by junior staff

  • Deliver client presentations and provide strategic advice on financial matters

  • Advise on Canadian income taxes, including HST, trusts, corporate and personal taxes (depending on specialization)

  • Guide clients in owner-managed business structures or not-for-profit organization (NPO) frameworks

  • Assist in implementing and using cloud accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Wave, Sage, and Jazzit

Required Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (Chartered Professional Accountant)

  • At least 4 years of experience in a public accounting practice

  • Proven experience in assurance engagements (ASPE/ASNFPO) or tax and compilation services

  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and manage a team

  • Excellent communication skills and a client-first attitude

  • Proficiency in CaseWare, QuickBooks, Sage, QBO, Wave, Xero (experience with Jazzit is an asset)

  • High level of integrity, initiative, and interpersonal skills
