Consultant Psychiatrist

 

Description:

Shared Health – Soins Communs, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry, is seeking a highly qualified Psychiatrist to join the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role is ideal for a compassionate, team-oriented psychiatrist dedicated to supporting individuals with severe and enduring mental illnesses through community-based treatment models.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care, clinical supervision, and leadership to support client recovery and community reintegration. The psychiatrist will have a central role in coordinating care plans, managing treatment, and contributing to the ongoing development of community psychiatry programs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychiatric and medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to program participants in accordance with professional standards.

  • Collaborate with the FACT Team Leader to oversee clinical service delivery and ensure continuity of care.

  • Participate in referral assessments, intakes, and the development of individualized recovery and treatment plans.

  • Offer psychiatric consultation and support to the HUB and related mental health services.

  • Determine and monitor participants requiring ongoing FACT services versus time-limited ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) supports.

  • Lead and participate in participant discharge planning and transitions of care.

  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and training for medical students, psychiatry residents, and interdisciplinary staff.

  • Develop and maintain treatment policies, medication management guidelines, and documentation standards.

  • Coordinate and review laboratory testing and follow-ups in collaboration with nursing staff.

  • Liaise with hospitals to manage inpatient admissions and coordinate transitions back into community care.

  • Offer leadership and guidance in team-based recovery planning and community integration efforts.

  • Foster effective collaboration with external agencies, including Shared Health Manitoba, WRHA Mental Health Services, and other government departments.

  • Participate in program evaluation, research activities, and ongoing service improvement initiatives.

  • Engage in the on-call rota, attend staff meetings, and participate in departmental activities as required.


Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialization in Psychiatry.

  • Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

  • Must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM).

  • Proven clinical experience in treating severe and enduring mental illnesses, including mood disorders, psychosis, and co-occurring conditions.

  • Training and/or experience in psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery-oriented care.

  • Strong leadership and clinical supervisory experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team collaboration skills.

  • Experience working within community-based mental health services or Assertive Community Treatment (ACT/FACT) programs is an asset.

  • Familiarity with addictions, intellectual disabilities, and dual-diagnosis treatment approaches is preferred.
