Description:
Scarborough Transit Connect (STC), the joint venture responsible for delivering the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rails & Systems (SSE-SRS) package for Metrolinx, is seeking an experienced Track Surveyor. This role is crucial in supporting the construction of a major 8-km subway extension of Toronto's Line 2, ensuring precision in track alignment, geometry, and infrastructure layout.
Conduct site surveys for new alignments, renewals, and maintenance
Measure track geometry: alignment, level, gauge, cant, twist, curvature, gradients
Use advanced survey instruments: total stations, GNSS, digital levels, laser scanners
Establish horizontal/vertical control points
Set out alignment for new track construction (sleepers, rails, turnouts)
Verify geometry against design tolerances
Process data using Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, Leica Geo Office, etc.
Create maps, alignment profiles, DTMs, and as-built documentation
Prepare technical reports and QA records
Perform inspections to detect deformation or settlement
Support predictive maintenance programs
Recommend corrective actions
Work with Survey Manager, engineers, PMs, and construction crews
Supervise junior surveyors/assistants
Ensure compliance with railway safety standards, permits, and protocols
Maintain and calibrate equipment
Provide survey control lines and networks
Perform quantity calculations and cut/fill grids
Layout work for various construction phases
Maintain precise survey records and field notes
Degree/diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field
Minimum 5 years of construction surveying experience
Proven experience in rail or infrastructure surveying
Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, GNSS, levels, track-specific tools)
Skilled in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Understanding of railway operational and construction safety standards
High commitment to safety
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organization and meticulous recordkeeping
Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and field crews
Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills
Must follow AODA standards
