Complex Claims Director

AIG is seeking a Complex Claims Director to join its Financial Lines Claims Team based in Toronto, ON. This role offers an opportunity to work on some of Canada's most high-profile and intricate litigation files, while maintaining a balanced work-life culture in a globally recognized insurance organization.

As part of AIG's world-class claims function, you will manage and resolve complex commercial claims, collaborating closely with clients, brokers, legal counsel, and internal teams. Your primary focus will include financial lines such as Directors & Officers (D&O) Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber Insurance, and M&A/Representations & Warranties coverage.

You’ll be responsible for assessing financial exposure, analyzing complex legal matters, developing claims strategies, and ensuring compliance with litigation protocols. The ideal candidate will be a legally trained professional with a strong understanding of commercial litigation, regulatory compliance, and insurance coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Handle complex commercial claims involving securities class actions, shareholder disputes, regulatory actions, cyber/privacy breaches, fraud investigations, and professional/employment liabilities

• Analyze coverage issues under a wide array of specialty commercial policies

• Set financial reserves and report high-exposure cases to senior leadership

• Manage and monitor performance of external legal counsel and maintain adherence to litigation guidelines

• Provide legal and strategic support to underwriters for business alignment

• Act as lead negotiator in mediations, settlements, and pre-trial conferences

• Deliver high-quality client and broker service

• Champion litigation best practices within a collaborative team environment

Required Qualifications:

• Law degree with 5+ years’ experience in legal practice (commercial litigation or insurance claims preferred)

• Proven ability to manage claims independently

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Effective problem-solving, negotiation, and analytical abilities

• High-level organizational and interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in working in a paperless, digital environment

• Must be based in Toronto or Montreal
