Description:
The Law Society of Ontario (LSO), the governing body for Ontario’s legal professionals, is seeking a Compensation Analyst within its Human Resources, Client & People Services department for an 18-month hybrid contract position based in Toronto. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned HR professional to contribute to the development, implementation, and administration of compensation and rewards programs that support the organization’s mission to attract, retain, and engage top talent across its legal, regulatory, and corporate functions.
The Compensation Analyst will be responsible for the planning, research, analysis, and administration of total rewards programs, including compensation, benefits, pension, incentive plans, and recognition initiatives. The role also involves ensuring compliance, maintaining compensation frameworks, conducting market benchmarking, and supporting the Manager in compensation reporting and data analysis.
Client / Customer Service Planning
Serve as an internal HR consultant, advising leadership and stakeholders on compensation strategies that align with organizational goals.
Conduct comprehensive market analysis and benchmarking using salary surveys to ensure competitive pay structures.
Develop and refine compensation processes, frameworks, and evaluation systems to meet operational and strategic needs.
Monitor vendor performance and collaborate with external service providers to recommend policy or program enhancements.
Use data-driven insights to recommend changes in compensation policies and job evaluation practices.
Collaborate closely with Payroll, HR Systems, and Total Rewards teams to ensure smooth program administration and data accuracy.
Maintain and administer job evaluation programs and job description frameworks while providing backup support for Benefits, Pension, and Wellness programs when required.
Client / Customer Service Delivery
Provide expert guidance to managers and employees on compensation-related policies and procedures.
Maintain compensation data integrity and prepare regular and ad-hoc analytical reports.
Support the design and implementation of salary structures and pay models, leveraging HRIS systems to enhance efficiency.
Conduct job evaluations, salary cost analyses, and recommend salary adjustments and job pricing solutions.
Ensure the consistency and clarity of job descriptions, maintaining an up-to-date job description and position library.
Collaborate with HR Systems and Payroll teams to ensure accuracy of compensation data within HRIS platforms.
Financial Responsibility
Support budget planning, analysis, and compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
Coordinate with vendors and service providers to administer compensation programs and related financial processes.
Conduct detailed costing and financial impact analyses for proposed compensation changes and new initiatives.
Team Membership
Collaborate with other HR team members on ongoing and new compensation-related projects.
Provide cross-functional support to Total Rewards and HR departments, acting as backup during high-volume or critical periods.
Contribute to departmental process improvements, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in compensation management.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Human Resources, or a related discipline (4-year degree required).
Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or CHRP designation (completed or in progress) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in compensation, job evaluation, or total rewards management.
Professional Knowledge:
Strong understanding of employment legislation, human resources principles, and compensation best practices.
Expertise in market surveys, job analysis, and salary structure development.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS platforms (e.g., Dayforce).
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Competencies:
