Community Recreation Coordinator

 

Description:

The Community Recreation Coordinator is responsible for promoting and delivering recreational programs and special events to foster a healthy and vibrant community in Niagara Falls. This role will work with individuals of all ages, from preschoolers to older adults, ensuring access to recreational opportunities that contribute to community wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Facilitation: Identify, develop, facilitate, and promote recreational programs and community-wide opportunities.

  • Partnerships: Coordinate with community associations, recreation agencies, sport organizations, and cultural groups to utilize city facilities and services.

  • Event Coordination: Assist with city-wide recreation and special events, including sponsorship development and revenue generation.

  • Special Event Management: Oversee event requirements (permits, insurance, inspections) and coordinate special event requests and meetings.

  • Budget Management: Develop and monitor section budgets.

  • Promotion and Marketing: Assist in creating promotional materials and updating the city’s website with relevant information.

  • Staff and Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, supervise, and recognize part-time employees, students, and volunteers.

  • Community Health and Wellness: Develop and promote community health and wellness initiatives.

  • Facility Coordination: Manage indoor and outdoor facility allocations for community sports users (soccer, baseball, softball, etc.).

  • Data Management: Maintain statistical information on facility usage for future decision-making regarding fees, policies, and resource allocation.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: College diploma in Recreation, Special Events, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in programming for children and youth, event planning, and working with volunteers/committees.

  • Certifications: First Aid, CPR, High Five certification.

  • Other: Valid Class “G” driver’s license.

Working Conditions:

  • Type: Permanent Full-time.

  • Work Schedule: 35-hour work week, includes some evenings and weekends.

  • Location: MacBain Community Centre, Niagara Falls.
