FortisAlberta is looking for a Communications Advisor – Community Investment to support the strategic development and delivery of community investment programs across the communities that FortisAlberta serves. This position will focus on the development and positioning of internal and external corporate initiatives to enhance the Company’s reputation. This position will also support employee communications and media relations including the development and positioning of internal and external corporate messages to support the company’s business priorities.

 

The Communications Advisor – Community Investment will provide communication advice, solutions and support to all levels of the organization to help achieve business results as well as build and manage key internal relationships at all levels of the organization, across department and geographic regions. This role will also need to negotiate sponsorship agreements on behalf of the Company, track monthly budget and prepare reports.

By working closely with other team members, the Communications Advisors - Community Investment will identify opportunities to promote initiatives and activities that enhance FortisAlberta’s reputation both internally and externally. Additionally, this role will research, write and edit internal and external communications materials such as presentations, newsletter articles, intranet and external website content. The Communications Advisors - Community Investment will be responsible for identifying and facilitating opportunities for the Company to receive appropriate media coverage; this includes acting as a media contact for pitched news stories and writing backgrounders, key message development and news releases as required. Special projects and other duties, as assigned.

  • Proven track record in Canadian Press Style business writing, sound business acumen and ability to synthesize information from a broad range of sources outside of own discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement communication strategy and tactics
  • Superior communications skills, including communications planning, research, editing and translating technical data into easily understood formats
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to carry projects and initiatives to completion while working successfully with various groups within a diverse and inclusive organization, both in a team environment and independently
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information; this includes a high degree of integrity and trust
  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and practices
  • Strong analytical skills in order to resolve issues and evaluate possible solutions
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with SAP would be an asset
