Description:
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), the first of its kind in Canada and a recognized leader in Indigenous healthcare and wellness, is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator – Carrier Lakes and Lake Babine to join its regional team. This role is central to supporting communication, collaboration, and planning initiatives with First Nations communities across British Columbia, helping advance self-determination and improve health outcomes.
Based in Burns Lake, BC, with a hybrid structure requiring travel throughout the Northern Region, this position involves working with the Cheslatta Carrier Nation, Lake Babine Nation, Nee-Tahi Bunn Band, Skin Tyee Nation, Stellat'en First Nation, Ts'il Kaz Koh First Nation, and the Wet'suwet'en First Nation. The Community Engagement Coordinator will design, coordinate, and deliver community engagement initiatives, ensuring alignment with FNHA’s strategic priorities and operational objectives while fostering respectful, culturally appropriate, and collaborative relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting local engagement strategies and coordinating meetings, gatherings, and activities with community leaders and members.
Building strong partnerships with First Nations at both the community and political levels, while respecting cultural practices and protocols.
Developing, adapting, and reporting on work plans in collaboration with regional teams.
Preparing presentations, materials, and documentation tailored to a variety of audiences.
Facilitating discussions, supporting conflict resolution, and ensuring effective two-way communication between communities and FNHA.
Collaborating across FNHA teams to integrate engagement efforts with health and wellness programs.
Qualifications:
University degree in health sciences, education, social services, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
3–5 years’ experience working directly with BC First Nations communities in engagement or coordination roles.
Proven knowledge of provincial and federal health systems, community development, and the specific health needs of First Nations communities.
Familiarity with BC First Nations governance, political structures, and community contexts.
Strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
Competence in conflict resolution, relationship-building, and facilitation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
