Job Description:

The Commercial Underwriter (Ontario based) will focus on Property & Casualty underwriting, with an emphasis on growing the High Value Homeowners Program. This is a strategic, high-visibility role suitable for a motivated underwriter who thrives in a fast-paced, broker-centric environment and enjoys autonomy, relationship-building, and ownership of their portfolio.

This position supports SRIM’s nationwide network and may involve cross-functional collaboration with underwriters across multiple Canadian locations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, underwrite, and price new business and renewals with accuracy and precision.

  • Develop and maintain a profitable book of business, focusing on High Value Homeowners.

  • Establish and strengthen relationships with retail producing brokers to increase submission flow.

  • Provide market intelligence and feedback to enhance team strategy and performance.

  • Attend broker meetings and industry events as a brand representative.

  • Participate in discussions with markets and contribute insights on specific programs.

  • Collaborate with cross-country underwriting teams to align goals and ensure consistency.

  • Balance independent decision-making with team-based collaboration and reporting.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of underwriting experience (Property & Casualty focus).

  • MGA experience considered a strong asset.

  • Level 1 General Insurance License (or ability to obtain within a set timeframe).

  • Professional designations preferred: CAIB, CIP, CRM, FCIP (or working toward completion).

  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills.

  • Strong attention to detail in preparing new business quotations.

  • Proven negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • Self-motivated, independent, and able to manage competing priorities.

  • Flexible and adaptable to change.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $65,000–$95,000 CAD (based on experience and qualifications)
