Description:
Alectra Inc., the largest municipally owned electric utility in Canada, is seeking a Collections Clerk (Finance) to join its Finance Department in Mississauga. This hybrid role offers a balance of in-office and remote work and provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong customer service and collections experience to build their career in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The Collections Clerk will play a critical role in managing Miscellaneous Accounts Receivable (MAR) by performing customer collections activities, back-office clerical functions, and account management tasks. Key responsibilities include managing unpaid accounts, final bill collections, write-offs, and liaising with collection agencies. The role requires frequent interaction with customers regarding payments, invoices, and disputes while ensuring adherence to Alectra Utilities standards, OEB requirements, and privacy legislation.
The incumbent will also support customer service teams by identifying and applying payments, facilitating payment plans, and processing adjustments as needed. Additional responsibilities involve preparing documents for customers, insurance companies, or collections agencies, completing approval paperwork for write-offs, and conducting user acceptance testing for system or procedural updates.
Key Qualifications and Competencies:
Minimum of a High School education required; diploma/degree in Business or related field preferred.
Up to 1 year of relevant experience in customer service, billing, or collections.
Experience dealing with challenging customer situations and moderately complex problems.
Strong computer skills including MS Office, especially Excel.
Experience with ERP systems, with preference for J.D. Edwards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong decision-making ability and problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.
Knowledge of electricity and water-related regulations and by-laws.
Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
