Class Stationary Engineer

 

Description:

  • Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Operates and monitors the utility plants, building automation and fire systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as required to keep equipment such as pumps, air compressors, water softeners and chillers operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Responds to emergency calls of various types (fire alarms, floods, etc.)
  • Performs inspection and maintenance on heating and cooling equipment both centrally supplied via tunnels as well as smaller building dedicated units.
  • Performs inspection and maintenance on equipment located on satellite campuses.
  • Requisitions materials.

Other

  • Works cooperatively with other trades, service providers and contractors.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned and supports departmental activities, including performing work of other classifications within scope of trade practice, level of incumbent’s capability/ competency/ skills, and/or regulatory requirements.
  • May perform work of a lower classification/pay band.
  • Coordinates the work of employees assigned to assist with tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
  • Fourth Class Provincial Certificate
  • Minimum of one-year recent experience as an Operating Engineer
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiarity with the operation of boiler control and building automation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpreting electrical diagrams and blueprints
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
  • Ability to use MS Office applications, mobile phone, etc.
