Description:
Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is looking for a Claims Adjuster 2, Casualty to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering an exceptional claims experience by conducting proactive investigations, evaluations, negotiations, and settlements of moderate to high complexity casualty claims. This role requires timely and accurate claim file documentation, coverage interpretation, and policy application, ensuring fair and consistent claim resolutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough liability, coverage, and quantum investigations to protect members.
- Communicate with claimants, legal representatives, and other insurers through voice, digital, and written correspondence.
- Adjust casualty claims of moderate to high complexity, ensuring policy compliance.
- Establish accurate loss and expense reserves based on evaluations from independent adjusters, legal experts, and medical professionals.
- Manage external vendors and service providers such as lawyers, engineers, accountants, and healthcare professionals.
- Negotiate with claimants, lawyers, and insurers to resolve claims efficiently.
- Handle claims in litigation, mediation, or arbitration, instructing assigned counsel when necessary.
- Maintain organized claim documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Stay updated on insurance policies, industry trends, and legislative changes.
- Occasionally participate in court proceedings, mediation, and dispute resolution.
- Provide training, guidance, and technical coaching in a limited capacity.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in insurance adjusting or equivalent.
- Post-secondary degree preferred.
- Willingness to pursue a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
- Knowledge of medical and legal terminology related to claims.
- Exceptional customer service skills, demonstrating empathy and concern for clients.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and active listening.
