Description:

MVT Canadian Bus, Inc., a proud operator of Barrie Transit under a long-term contract with the City of Barrie, is seeking a Chief Operations Supervisor to lead daily transit operations and ensure top-tier service delivery. Based out of a state-of-the-art $22M facility, this leadership role is integral in maintaining on-time performance, managing operator schedules, and ensuring overall operational efficiency for conventional, specialized, and on-demand transit services.

As a Chief Operations Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in collaborating with the Operations Manager to oversee service scheduling, staff performance, compliance with policies and collective agreements, and the implementation of system improvements. This position blends field and office responsibilities and requires a detail-oriented, solution-driven individual with strong leadership and analytical capabilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily vehicle operator scheduling and service delivery to meet on-time and productivity benchmarks

  • Monitor and adjust schedules to reduce customer complaints and improve operational performance

  • Ensure schedule compliance with client and internal policies

  • Supervise operations and scheduling staff, providing coaching, training, and performance feedback

  • Administer and authorize work schedules for payroll and attendance management

  • Participate in disciplinary actions, up to and including suspensions and terminations, ensuring compliance with collective agreements

  • Represent the company in grievance processes and labor relations matters

  • Utilize tools such as APC, CADAVL, TripSpark, and Trapeze to analyze and improve operational efficiency

  • Serve as liaison between operations, clients, and technical support teams regarding service challenges

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for transit systems and scheduling software

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of operations, staff, and customer data

  • Support reporting processes for daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics

  • Offer field support for customer service issues and operational needs


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven leadership with a “safety first” approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels

  • Effective delegation, supervision, and multi-tasking abilities

  • Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office, scheduling platforms like Trapeze)

  • In-depth knowledge of local transit operations, performance metrics, and service compliance

  • Understanding of transit technologies and communication tools (e.g., radios, multi-line phones)

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with strong problem-solving skills
