Description:

Gerdau North America is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Buyer II to join its dynamic procurement team in Whitby, Ontario. As a Buyer II, you will play a crucial role in purchasing goods and services in a timely, economical, and efficient manner. This position is integral to the company’s ongoing cultural and digital transformation, ensuring procurement processes are aligned with commercial, operational, and cost objectives.

Gerdau operates globally with mini-mills transforming millions of metric tons of raw materials into steel products used across industries such as automotive, construction, appliances, machinery, and equipment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchase goods and services while ensuring cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with procurement policies.

  • Conduct supply-demand analysis, adjust purchase quantities, and expedite delivery schedules to align with monthly buying plans.

  • Maintain and foster supplier relationships while ensuring continuity of supply, safety compliance, and timely deliveries.

  • Collaborate with procurement teams to optimize costs, quality, and delivery while reducing inventory levels across the region.

  • Execute and manage purchase contracts, review vendor performance, and develop sourcing strategies aligned with company goals.

  • Monitor inventory usage against planned demand, adjust procurement strategies accordingly, and facilitate cost control measures.

  • Act as a liaison between central procurement teams and regional operations to ensure effective supply chain operations.

  • Lead procurement-related projects, especially those involving CapEx equipment acquisitions, milestone payments, and foreign trade compliance.

  • Conduct sessions to train and guide regional teams on procurement tools, policies, and process improvements.

  • Regularly report procurement activities and performance to central and regional management teams.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or related field.

  • 6–9 years of indirect transactional procurement experience.

  • General knowledge of steelmaking, manufacturing, logistics, and procurement procedures.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • High ethical standards with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Willingness to travel 10–20% of the time.
