Building Technician

 

Description:

SaskTel is seeking a Building Technician in Weyburn, SK, responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing SaskTel buildings and properties. This role requires certification and licensing in refrigeration and power engineering. The technician will act as the Chief Engineer and Refrigeration Engineer as per Saskatchewan's Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act and will also manage contracted building services.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, heating, cooling, humidification, and ventilation equipment.
✅ Perform preventative maintenance on buildings and systems.
✅ Respond to customer requests and troubleshoot building issues.
✅ Investigate and resolve environmental concerns, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
✅ Administer contracted building services such as snow removal and grounds maintenance.
✅ Provide project management for maintenance, repair, and renovation projects.
✅ Maintain compliance with safety, environmental policies, and fire codes.
✅ Operate various power tools and powered mobile equipment (e.g., boom sprayers, loaders, grass cutters).
✅ Respond to emergencies, including bomb threats, environmental spills, biohazards, and fires.

Required Qualifications:

Refrigeration Engineer’s Certificate with one of the following:

  • Building System Technician certification & 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate
  • BOMI SMT certification & 2+ years of relevant experience with 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate
  • Journeyperson (Electrician, Plumber, or Refrigeration Technician) & Limited Power Engineer’s Certificate (Fireman’s)
    ✔ Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications.
    ✔ Ability to lead and train team members.
    ✔ Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.
    Knowledge of fire codes, environmental policies, and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
    Valid Driver’s License (5G-1 required for some roles).
    ✔ Additional training and certifications may be required, including Pesticide Applicators Certificate, Project Management courses, and Environmental Health & Safety modules.

Work Conditions & Additional Requirements:

  • Overtime & shift work may be required per the Collective Agreement.
  • In-province travel, including flights to remote locations for northern positions.
  • Work may involve heights, confined spaces, hazardous materials, and emergency response situations.
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) certification for emergency response.
  • Adherence to all safety, health, and environmental regulations.
