Description:
Cancer Care Manitoba, a provincial agency dedicated to cancer control and treatment of blood disorders, is seeking a Breast Check Medical Lead to oversee the clinical operations of Manitoba’s provincial breast cancer screening program. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality screening, diagnostic follow-up, and radiological practices while supporting staff, radiologists, and healthcare providers engaged in the program. This position is a unique opportunity for a medical professional to make a direct impact on cancer prevention and early detection within the province.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical leadership for Breast Check operations, including recruitment, screening, results reporting, and follow-up care.
Offer direct support, advice, and training to Breast Check staff and radiologists.
Contribute to program planning, design, and implementation, including the integration of new technologies.
Develop and review medical guidelines, referral processes, education materials, and standard operating procedures.
Ensure medical accuracy in educational and clinical resources.
Collaborate with healthcare administrators and providers to maintain program excellence.
Review abnormal cases to ensure proper follow-up and provider communication.
Oversee compliance with legislation and accreditation standards.
Monitor program performance indicators and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead quality assurance activities for radiology, including case reviews, KPI analysis, and process development.
Participate in CME activities, training, and professional education.
Serve as a spokesperson when required, maintaining liaisons with relevant stakeholders and professional organizations.
Qualifications (Required):
Licensed physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
Eligibility under CAR-MAP (Canadian Association of Radiologists’ Mammography Accreditation Program) and MAQAP (Manitoba Quality Assurance Program).
Knowledge of breast cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and population screening principles.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
Compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., Personal Health Information Act).
Assets:
Experience in training healthcare providers.
Administrative or management background.
Experience collaborating with national healthcare colleagues.
Knowledge of healthcare system operations and breast cancer screening literature.
