Battery Modeling Team Lead

A market-leading battery management software startup is seeking a Battery Modeling Team Lead to drive innovation and manage a small team of battery scientists and developers. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic planning, focusing on AI-driven battery management solutions integrated into batteries, OEMs, and fleets.

The ideal candidate is a player/coach with strong expertise in battery modeling, materials, and performance simulation, capable of leading a high-performing team and contributing directly to technical projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 3 Battery Scientists & Developers.

• Oversee development and optimization of processes, leveraging AI and productivity tools.

• Provide strategic direction for long-term planning and growth of the battery science function.

• Develop and validate models simulating battery performance under varying conditions (charge/discharge cycles, temperature, degradation).

• Enhance simulation tools to predict battery life, efficiency, and performance for multiple chemistries (Li-Ion, Li Metal, Sodium, Lead Acid, etc.).

• Conduct rigorous testing on battery systems for performance, safety, and lifecycle assessments.

• Support integration of battery cells into larger systems for optimized storage, power delivery, and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the battery engineering space.

• Minimum 2 years in a managerial role within the battery domain.

• Experience in a player/coach role.

• Strong exposure to machine learning (ML) and AI applied to batteries.

• Deep technical expertise in battery technologies, materials, and testing methods; proficiency in Design of Experiments (DOE).

• Strong knowledge of battery estimation techniques (SOC, SOH, SOP, SOT).

• Familiarity with systems engineering for energy storage, eMobility, and robotics applications.
