The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) — one of the world’s leading biomedical and hospital research centers affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University — invites applications for the position of Auxiliary Nurse to support the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA).
The CLSA is a national research initiative focused on understanding the aging process by studying more than 50,000 adults across Canada. At the Montreal Data Collection Site, the Auxiliary Nurse will play a vital role in conducting participant interviews, physical assessments, and biological sample collection to support the fifth wave of data collection for this landmark study.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact research improving health and aging outcomes for Canadians while working within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
Confirm and schedule participant appointments while maintaining clear communication and follow-up.
Welcome and register study participants, ensuring a positive and professional experience.
Perform venipuncture for blood sample collection (essential requirement).
Conduct standardized physical assessments, including:
Mobility, balance, grip strength, and cognitive function tests (training provided).
Measurement of weight, height, blood pressure, carotid aorta thickness, lung function, and ECG readings (training provided).
DXA bone density scanning, vision, and hearing assessments (training provided).
Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory and medical equipment, ensuring all instruments function within quality standards.
Maintain compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and institutional safety guidelines for personal protection, data security, and biohazard waste disposal.
Perform data entry, reagent inventory management, and accurate record-keeping.
Assist with other related research or clinical duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Education: Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in Health, Assistance, and Nursing Care.
Professional Membership: Mandatory membership with the Order of Licensed Practical Nurses of Quebec (OIIAQ).
Languages: Fluency in English and French (spoken and written) is essential.
Experience:
Proven experience in venipuncture (blood sample collection).
Experience working with the public.
Previous research or clinical data collection experience considered an asset (training provided).
Core Skills:
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) considered an asset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively in a team setting.
Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential participant information.
Positive attitude and commitment to quality and ethical research standards.
Annual salary between CAD 44,408 and CAD 82,427.80, based on qualifications and experience.
Four weeks of paid vacation, increasing to five weeks after five years of service.
