The Automation specialist supports automation engineering activities for strategic capital and site operational improvement projects. As the system administrator subject matter expert, the incumbent will manage configuration, system architecture, backup and disaster recovery procedures, day to day maintenance, as well as interfacing with relevant stakeholders including ITS, Integrated Manufacturing Systems (IMS), system vendors, and end users.

The incumbent is also responsible for establishing the relevant automation system architecture in accordance with industry and Sanofi digital standards for both capital projects and site operations (i.e. existing infrastructure). The incumbent is accountable for acting and involvement in producing and then implementing designs (including commissioning and qualification post installation) according to SPL best practices. The incumbent needs to be able to demonstrate and communicate good technical understanding of the automation systems and defend technical design decisions.

The incumbent will dictate system infrastructure and define testing strategies to ensure automation deliverables and timelines are met. System infrastructure elements include Unique user access management and work groups, backup and restore procedures, troubleshooting capabilities with ITS, software and hardware obsolescence, connectivity feasibility and implementation, cybersecurity management, day to day preventive maintenance tasks, etc.

Main Responsibilities

User account management - Defining site strategies for User Access Management and working across teams to ensure compliance
Patch and application update management - Managing the Site Patch Management and lifecycle management for automation systems in conjunction with ITS and system owners
System performance monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution - Supporting all investigations on deficiencies observed and identifying risks to the business
Management and troubleshooting of manufacturing IT/OT system interfaces including:
Firewall
Network Time synchronization
Antivirus
Domain
Active Directory
Data flow and storage
Disaster Recovery (backup and restore) of computerized control systems - ensure all disaster recovery complies with Data Integrity requirements
Drive software and system changes following change management processes. Implementation, commissioning and qualification execution for accountable systems. Review C&Q test plans for technical content. Manage and track the work of suppliers and service providers to ensure quality deliverables. 
Advance connectivity and cybersecurity compliance initiatives for site automation systems
Ability to work in a collaborative shared space in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision-making is required.
Education

About you

Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science, Information technology or Computer Science or equivalent job certificate / education.

Experience

3+ years, direct of experience in system administration and digital infrastructure
Able to work independently and in collaboration with others
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical skills
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Desire to work within a team environment
Strong project management skills including organization, time management, and follow-up
Working knowledge of PLC’s and experience in systems administration with the DeltaV system preferred
Experience with computer systems validation practices (GAMP).
Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job-trainings, and other controlled documents

Soft And Technical Skills

Individual must have strong understanding of Windows servers, networking and Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience with PLCs, Ignition, or DeltaV is an asset.
Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential. Individual must have a proven ability to drive project execution.
Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis).
