Description:
CN, a world-class transportation leader connecting Canada from coast to coast and into the U.S., is hiring an Assistant Track Maintenance Foreman for its operations in Prince George, BC. This is a physically demanding, safety-first role ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and as part of a dynamic team.
As an Assistant Track Foreman, you will play a crucial leadership role in ensuring the railway infrastructure remains safe and operational. You will lead track maintenance crews and be actively involved in inspecting, repairing, and replacing various track components to meet CN’s safety and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise track maintenance crews and inspect all maintenance work.
Maintain and repair rails, ties, switches, ballast, and track alignment.
Identify and remove defective track components including ties, rails, spikes, and anchors.
Manage drainage systems, right-of-way clearing, and infrastructure cleanliness.
Install and maintain power-operated switches and insulated joints.
Load/unload and sort materials and ballast using manual labor as needed.
Ensure compliance with CN’s safety standards, operating rules, and procedures.
Complete detailed inspection reports, material inventories, and maintenance logs.
Collaborate with safety personnel to implement safety directives and programs.
Lead by example and maintain a “Customer First” approach in all work processes.
Working Conditions:
On-site, outdoor role requiring physical endurance across varying weather and environmental conditions.
Work shifts, extended hours, and out-of-town work cycles may be required.
Repetitive physical activities including lifting up to 70 lbs (32 kg).
Requires strong hand-eye coordination and physical fitness.
Requirements:
Foreman or supervisory experience is preferred.
Experience in outdoor or labor-intensive work environments.
High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
Valid driver’s license required.
Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
Welding skills and knowledge of rail operating rules or signal systems considered assets.
Training Provided:
Upon hiring, successful candidates will undergo a comprehensive training program:
4 weeks of classroom instruction (40 hours/week) focused on safety and operational procedures.
On-the-job training in practical railway maintenance tasks.
Completion of the training program is mandatory to retain the position.
