Description:
The Department of Biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) is inviting applications for a full-time tenure stream faculty position in Molecular Genetics, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. This role is open to candidates specializing in diverse areas, including genomics, behavioural genetics, cell and developmental biology, ecology, physiology, evolution, population genetics, and systems biology. Applicants working with organisms that do not require animal care facilities (e.g., microbial, plant, cultured cells, invertebrates, computational or field-based systems) are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic community committed to research excellence, innovative teaching, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Assistant Professor will be expected to establish a competitive, externally funded research program and contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching, mentorship, and curriculum development.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct innovative and independent research in molecular genetics or related fields.
Publish high-impact research in internationally recognized journals.
Secure external research funding to support scholarly activities.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biology, molecular genetics, and related disciplines.
Develop inclusive teaching practices and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
Participate in departmental and university service, fostering collaboration across UTM and the tri-campus University of Toronto ecosystem.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Biology or a related field (by appointment date).
Demonstrated record of research excellence, evidenced by publications, awards, conference presentations, and strong research statement.
Evidence of teaching excellence, supported by teaching dossiers, evaluations, teaching statement, and other academic contributions.
Preference for candidates with postdoctoral experience.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with an ability to contribute to an inclusive academic environment.
