Description:
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), a globally recognized biomedical and healthcare research center affiliated with McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine, is seeking an Animal Care Worker for a part-time occasional role.
Working under the supervision of the Manager of Animal Resources Division, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high-quality care, handling, and maintenance of laboratory animals across multiple research sites. This role is crucial to supporting world-class research while ensuring compliance with animal care standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out animal breeding tasks, provide daily care, and maintain overall animal health.
Record health and usage data, prepare reports, and maintain accurate logs.
Clean, disinfect, and prepare cages according to established protocols.
Receive, store, and distribute food and necessary supplies for animal care.
Maintain inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Distribute clean uniforms and linens.
Operate and monitor equipment, tools, and instruments used in animal care facilities.
Interact professionally with researchers and staff across multiple research sites.
Required Competencies:
Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities in both French and English.
Ability to adapt to different research sites and multitask in a time-sensitive environment.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Prior animal care experience is considered an asset.
Additional Information & Benefits:
Part-time occasional role (on-call basis), with variable weekly hours depending on operational needs.
Mandatory initial training: 2 consecutive weeks (Mon–Fri, 35 hours/week).
Work schedule starts at 7 AM; may include weekends, statutory holidays, and vacation coverage.
Compensation range: 22.83 – 34.26 CAD/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Benefits include:
3 paid sick days per year (including up to 1 personal day).
Defined benefit government pension plan (RREGOP).
Pro-rated vacation pay.
Additional 5.3% of gross salary added to each pay in lieu of statutory holidays.
