Animal Care Technician

Description:

Maple Leaf Foods Inc., a leading Canadian food processing company, is hiring for the position of Animal Care Technician at its Border Bacon location near Fallison, Manitoba (Crystal City region). This on-site role is ideal for individuals passionate about animal welfare, agriculture, and working in a hands-on livestock environment.

The Animal Care Technician will be responsible for a wide range of duties aimed at ensuring the well-being and health of pigs. Tasks include feeding, monitoring herd health, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring that daily production targets are met while adhering to strict animal welfare and biosecurity protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care, feeding, and monitoring of pigs

• Maintain herd health and support veterinary care needs

• Clean and sanitize barns and rooms using pressure washing equipment

• Maintain accurate records, including inventory trackers, door charts, and feed/medication orders

• Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for humane animal treatment

• Participate in maintenance, general cleaning, and clerical duties

• Work collaboratively as part of a production team focused on achieving set goals

• Adhere to health and safety guidelines at all times

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Ability and willingness to learn animal care protocols

• Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills

• Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision

• Physically capable of lifting up to 25 kg

• Detail-oriented with a positive work ethic and strong communication skills

• Must be able to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to rural worksite

• Availability to work weekends, holidays, and alarm response duties on rotation

• Previous experience in hog production is an asset
