Description:

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (IR-CUSM) is a world-renowned biomedical and healthcare research center based in Montreal, affiliated with McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine. The institute is partly funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) and provides cutting-edge facilities for advanced health research.

In this role, the Administrative Coordinator will work under the general supervision of the Animal Resources Division Manager. The coordinator will support research teams by performing essential animal care and technical procedures, ensuring proper record-keeping, maintaining lab environments, and coordinating supplies and inventory management across multiple research sites.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out animal care and breeding-related tasks and ensuring ethical handling practices.

  • Recording and reporting various data related to animal health and research use.

  • Cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing cages while maintaining hygiene and biosecurity standards.

  • Receiving, storing, and transporting feed, materials, and other supplies needed for animal care.

  • Managing inventories of materials, uniforms, and equipment to support research operations.

  • Operating and monitoring specialized equipment, tools, and instruments.

  • Collaborating and interacting with researchers, providing support and facilitating smooth research operations.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability, with capacity to prioritize sensitive and time-critical tasks.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both French and English (spoken and written).

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work across different IR-CUSM sites.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Previous animal care or laboratory research experience is considered a strong asset.

Additional Information:

  • Part-time, occasional (on-call) position with variable weekly hours based on institutional needs.

  • Initial training provided, requiring 2 consecutive weeks of full-time weekday availability (35 hours per week).

  • Work schedule typically starts at 7 a.m., including possible weekends, holidays, and vacation replacements.

  • Competitive benefits including 3 paid sick/personal leave days annually, government pension plan (RREGOP), prorated vacation pay, and 5.3% salary supplement in lieu of statutory holidays.

  • This is a research institute position, not a hospital position.
