Description:
Queen's University is seeking an experienced and visionary Academic Manager for its Continuing Teacher Education (CTE) department. Reporting to the Director of CTE and Professional Studies, this is a pivotal leadership position responsible for managing the operational and academic facets of online teacher education programs.
The incumbent will lead a team dedicated to course development, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and innovation in instructional design. Key duties include:
Strategic Planning & Budget Oversight: Advises on and contributes to the strategic and annual business plans of the unit. Oversees the CTE course development budget, ensuring cost-benefit optimization and financial sustainability.
Academic Leadership & Course Development: Oversees quality and timely development of academic courses, including compliance with guidelines from the Ontario College of Teachers and other regulatory bodies. Applies modern educational methodologies such as Understanding by Design and ADDIE.
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Analyzes enrollment trends and market demands to guide new course development, discontinuation, or updates. Promotes the use of AI and emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and academic innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation: Acts as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory boards across multiple provinces. May represent the Director or Executive Director in official capacities.
Quality Assurance & Policy Development: Ensures robust assessment and evaluation policies are implemented. Upholds high academic standards in course content, testing, and technology integration.
Team Development & Staff Management: Provides coaching, mentoring, and ongoing development opportunities to team members. Leads performance evaluations, staffing decisions, and disciplinary matters.
Operational Leadership: Directs the implementation of new initiatives, manages change effectively, and fosters a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive team environment.
This role is critical to the continued growth and academic excellence of Queen’s CTE program, supporting both national and international outreach.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field
At least 5 years of experience in project management and course development
Minimum 3 years of leadership experience
Knowledge of curriculum development frameworks (e.g., ADDIE, Understanding by Design)
Strong familiarity with university operations, regulatory compliance, and instructional technology
Available for national and occasional international travel
Must be fully available to work on-site and on irregular schedules (evenings/weekends as needed)
